Poughkeepsie Dirt Bike Guy! You almost gave me a heart attack

I’m pretty sure these little dirt bikes (or whatever they’re called these days) aren’t street legal. Yet I see them everywhere, at least in the town of Poughkeepsie. And I thought if you were breaking the law, you should at least try not to draw too much attention to yourself.

It’s hard not to draw attention to yourself when riding up and down the road on a loud little dirt bike in broad daylight. But if you try to sneak around in the dark on your illegal dirt bike, maybe if you at least try to ride safely, you might go unnoticed. But, nooo. Not you, Mr. Illegal Dirt Bike Guy. Looks like you’re going to do whatever you want, legal or not. Which brings me to the bad experience I had going to work the other day.

I go to work very early. I leave the house at 5:15 every day. There’s usually not much traffic on the roads, especially on my short 1.5 mile commute to work. The other day was no different. Until I got to Washington Street in Poughkeepsie. I was driving down the road minding my own business when I noticed a single light a short distance away. It seemed that what the light belonged to was small and was heading towards me in my lane. What the hell? Did it go the other way or did it stop? No, I kept coming towards me. Finally, I had to stop in the middle of the road or I would have run into the mysterious lighthouse. I still didn’t know if he was going to get into my car or not.

I’m happy to report that Dirt Bag, I mean Dirt Bike Guy didn’t drive in my car. Just before he did, he ducked into a small parking lot next to where I had parked my car. That’s when I saw that the headlight belonged to some kind of motorized bicycle. I didn’t take a good look at the guy, but I noticed he wasn’t wearing a helmet. Really, Dirt Bike Guy? Illegal bike (possibly), no helmet, riding on the wrong side of the road in the pitch back? Maybe you have a death wish, but I don’t, and you almost gave me a heart attack.
