Motocross crash sent one to hospital, one to court

A Huntsville man will spend the next 50 days under house arrest after a night out and a motorcycle accident.

This week in a Bracebridge courtroom, Taylor Cottrill pleaded guilty to dangerous driving.

Court heard that on May 24, 2020 at approximately 8 a.m. Huntsville OPP received a call regarding a motorcycle accident on Forbes Hill Drive. Cottrill had been at a party and stayed up all night, before riding off with another man as a passenger on the back of a “dirt bike-style motorcycle”.

At some point, Cottrill lost control of the bike, crashed it, and threw the passenger onto the back of the bike. Cottrill offered to drive the passenger home, but he declined and instead asked to be dropped off at a nearby convenience store.

The passenger later proceeded to Huntsville District Memorial Hospital with multiple injuries.

The court heard that Cottrill had received a speeding ticket several times over the past few years.

He was sentenced to 50 days house arrest, 12 months probation and a 12-month driving ban.
