Portland knows that when you get the call, you may not be at a company that wants to help you. Often bathrooms in companies are reserved for paying customers. Plus, what company wants you to visit just to empty your bladder?

The City of Portland has just opened its last two public toilets. The one above is on the Payson Park basketball courts. The other is at Evergreen Cemetery in Duck Pond.

Of the thirty public toilets, there are 16 portable toilets, 9 flush toilets and 5 vaulted toilets. I had to look up what a vaulted toilet was because I had no idea. Thanks Google :

A vault toilet is a permanently waterless bathroom that sits above a vault or “pit” serviced by a waste management company. Vault toilets do not require plumbing or electricity, but do require vehicle access to maintain them.

Evergreen Cemetery public restroom photo is vaulted! Go figure. In fact, go for it. I can neither confirm nor deny the condition of the public restrooms. Obviously, the type will determine what the condition will be. You don’t have many choices in a portable pot. But, it’s better than holding it!

Check map of all public restrooms! Plan that trip to the park, the library, or even Peaks Island, and know that a bathroom is never far away.
